Join us at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute for a dynamic panel conversation on the past, present, and future of global conservation, featuring Grace Dho '23, senior grants coordinator at the National Park Foundation and a recent graduate of the Institute; Sydney Lenz ’23, animal keeper helper at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute; Colby Loucks ’94, vice president and deputy lead of the Wildlife Program; and Robert Rose, executive director of William & Mary’s Institute for Integrative Conservation. Together they explore the current state of biodiversity conservation, emerging reasons for hope and the power of integrative solutions shaped by engaged W&M alumni. Following the discussion, join the panelists for intimate guided tours of the Zoo, where they will share insights from their research and offer an insider’s view of the work shaping a more resilient planet.

Event will include Smithsonian Bird Friendly® coffee and a light continental breakfast.

  • For those departing from the host hotel, meet in the InterContinental Washington, D.C. - The Wharf lobby at 8 a.m. Shuttles will depart at 8:30 a.m. Shuttle will return by 12:30 p.m.

  • If arriving on your own, you can enter the Smithsonian’s National Zoo from two different entrances: 
  • Please note the Conservation Pavilion is located at bottom of Olmsted Walk nearest the Harvard Street Bridge entrance Zoo Map. The terrain is hilly and the walk from the main entrance (will take 15-20+ minutes).
