2023: San Francisco

W&M Weekend logo at Oracle Park

The fourth annual William & Mary Weekend was held in San Francisco on June 1-4, 2023. Highlights included:

  • W&M went All In to kick off W&M Weekend in San Francisco at Oracle Park! Athletics Director Brian Mann moderated a conversation between Kathy Carter ’91, chief executive officer of LA28, the summer 2028 Olympic and Paralympic games in Los Angeles, and Jill Ellis ’88, L.H.D. ’16, president of San Diego Wave FC and former two-time championship winning coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team.
  • Attendees took a deep dive into global issues of biodiversity and conservation at the Steinhart Aquarium. Derek Aday, dean and director of William & Mary’s Virginia Institute of Marine Science; Robert Rose, executive director of William & Mary’s Institute for Integrative Conservation and Bart Shepherd ’92, senior director of the Steinhart Aquarium shared their insights into W&M's Vision 2026 Water initiative in front of one of the deepest and largest displays of living coral in the world, the 212,000-gallon, 25-feet-deep Philippine Coral Reef tank.
  • A fun and fast-paced auction where guests bid on exclusive items (including a jar of Cheese Shop House Dressing signed by 2023 Commencement speaker Patton Oswalt ’92, D.A. ’23!), vacation packages, naming a booth at Paul's Deli and more. Jack Edgar ’15 served as auctioneer for the glamorous event, which raised over $120,000 for the W&M Alumni Association Fund to support programming and engagement opportunities for W&M alumni worldwide.

2018: Chicago

The third annual William & Mary Weekend was held in Chicago on June 1-3, 2018. Highlights included:

  • An opening reception and keynote featuring James Comey Jr. ’82, LL.D. ’08, P ’10, P ’22
  • “Free Speech Under Fire,” in which William & Mary President W. Taylor Reveley, III LL.D. ’18, HON ’18 and University of Chicago President Robert J. Zimmer reflected on the challenges to free speech they have faced on their own campuses and what steps can be taken to protect this sacred freedom today and in the future
  • A behind-the-scenes tour of the Tang Hall of China at the Field Museum with honorary chair of the W&M Weekend Michael Tang ’76, P ’13
  • A gala, auction and Chicago lights dinner cruise

2017: New York City

The second annual William & Mary Weekend in New York City on May 18-21, 2017. Highlights included:

  • The Weekend Kickoff and Raft Debate with Joe Plumeri ’66, D.P.S. ’11, vice chairman of First Data Board of Directors and honorary chair of the W&M Weekend in NYC, at a reception at the New York Athletic Club
  • A private 9/11 Memorial Museum Tour & Discussion with David Kelley ’81, former co-chair of the 9/11 DOJ Investigation
  • A TED-style talk and discussion featuring W&M alumnae Beth Comstock ’82, who led GE’s business innovations efforts, and Ellen Stofan ’83, D.Sc. ’16, former chief scientist of NASA
  • A William & Mary comedy show featuring headliner and W&M alumna Carmen Lynch as well as other alumni comedians

2016: Washington, D.C.

 

The inaugural 2016 William & Mary Weekend was hosted at Washington, D.C., on June 2-5, 2016.

Highlights included:

  • The Raft Debate Tournament of Champions
  • A trip to the Supreme Court with a special visit from Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy
  • An insider tour and brunch at George Washington’s Mount Vernon
