Deep Dive: Biodiversity & Conservation Below the Surface – Sponsored by VIMS & IIC
Saturday, June 3, 2023 | 8:30 am - 11:30 am
California Academy of Sciences, Steinhart Aquarium, Golden Gate Park, 55 Music Concourse Drive, San Francisco, CA 94118
Submerge yourself in global issues of biodiversity and conservation with a discussion among Derek Aday, dean and director of William & Mary’s Virginia Institute of Marine Science; Robert Rose, executive director of William & Mary’s Institute for Integrative Conservation and Bart Shepherd ’92, senior director of the Steinhart Aquarium. We’ll gather in front of one of the deepest and largest displays of living coral in the world, the 212,000-gallon, 25-feet-deep Philippine Coral Reef tank. Following the discussion, take a deep dive behind the scenes with insider access tours to how the aquarium operates. Guests will then have a private screening of the all-digital Expedition Reef in the Morrison Planetarium full-dome screen that will immerse attendees in an undersea adventure to the “rainforests of the sea.”
