Military History Tour of the Presidio – Sponsored by APIM & Ao75

Friday, June 2, 2023 | 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Begins and ends at the Fairmont

Explore the military history of El Presidio Real de San Francisco (the Presidio of San Francisco) on this walking tour, sponsored by the Asian-Pacific Islander-Middle Eastern Alumni Association and the Association of 1775. Since it was first established in 1776 as a fortified military settlement by Spain, the Presidio grew to become one of the U.S. Army’s most critical West Coast installations, playing important roles in the Spanish American War, the Philippine-American War and World War II — including as headquarters for the command responsible for Japanese internment during WWII and for a language school where second-generation Japanese Americans taught Japanese to service members.
